Grabbing the Bull by the Horns

The residents on the canal bordered by Ebb Tide and Venus Village met and implemented a plan to deal with their canal. They cleared all the algae out from behind their docks into the middle of the canal. They placed four booms across the canal. As the wind blows the algae out of the canal they sequentially open and close the booms preventing the algae from reentering the canal. They are also using two spray boats and a boom to haul the algae out of the canal. It was reported that many of the residents worked for 10-14 hours on the project. This exemplary effort shows what can be done when we ban together and use some good ideas to deal with our situation.
Much work is being doneĀ  using booms to pull the algae out of the canals and to prevent algae from entering the canals. Unfortunately this is taking a huge toll on our spray boats. Two of the spray boats are needing immediate repair. A third has a transome that is about to fall off and needs to be taken out of the water to be repaired. All of this repair work falls on Steve Abel who is dealing with the problems as best he can. He is having difficulty locating parts and getting them delivered. In some cases the wait time is two or three weeks.
In some of the canals boating is impossible. The engines get clogged and overheat. Boaters should be warned to keep a close eye on their temperature gages.
It looks as though we are going to have a very rough summer ahead of us.
